Master Bathroom Remodel

At long last, my master bathroom is being remodeled.  The whole suite, in fact.

I feel like hitting an operatic high note and holding it for 30 seconds - or until I run out of breath.

This has been a long awaited project.

A while ago we discovered some issues with the plumbing in the tub and shower in this master bath. We decided to forgo the quick fix in the interest of really doing what we wanted  - to pull out the tub and put in a walk-in shower.  We had become 'empty-nesters' so moving to the guest bathroom wasn't much of an inconvenience. I just kept the goal of a complete remodel in my head.
The ugly before... after a little demo...
We were in the middle of a major remodel in the kitchen at the time, so I had a lot of time to plan and dream about the changes in my bedroom and bath.  The master bath hadn't been touched since its construction in the early 90's.  Oak vanity, cheap round bulb strip light fixtures, 2 inch white tile for the tub and shower, berber carpet...  It wasn't just a shower we were redoing, it was a whole room change.

Long. Awaited.

changing the tub drain to a floor drain

the hot mop - (my house smelled like tar)

When we moved here I was so tuned in to what needed to be done to the main living spaces that neglected to follow my own advice - to focus on the master suite before the rest of the house - because its your sanctuary....  The rest of the house needed so much work that I put the 'sanctuary' last on the list.
love this gorgeous stone

Oscar.. the man!

And it was a long list.
love the new drain...

But now its happening and I'm over the moon excited.

I really do love remodeling.  I love taking everything away and starting fresh.  Its always good in a house that has been around for nearly 3 decades like mine, to see what is going on behind those walls and under that flooring.   In my case, I found a little water damage (rot) on my sub-floor from a past roof leak and rain damage (more rot) near the doors to the deck that needed repair.  The roof leak was a long ago repair, but the rain damage was hidden and could have caused problems later on.  It is no longer hidden and can be corrected so that it doesn't keep recurring.

just a bit of a glitch

all better

I also asked the guys to silence a very annoying creak in the flooring.  I figured, if it was creaking, it was flexing, and the thought of tile on top of that made me nervous.  Would my tile crack?   After many tries to muffle the squeaks with a whole lot of screws - to no avail - they had to remove baseboard and drywall to discover that the wall was no longer attached to the sub-floor in that area. Once it was reattached - no more squeaks.

over the moon!

There are a lot of wonderful things happening in this space, but I think I am most excited about painting this room a fresh new color!  I'm exploring those options - but first I need to choose grout color, pick up a new toilet, choose a medicine cabinet, sconces .... I'll update you later on the progress!

Hope you enjoyed the preview...
