PLAYING WITH MIRRORS

The hubs and I visited Restoration Hardware outlet this weekend in anticipation of our master bedroom and bath remodel coming up in a few months.  We were looking for mirrors for the dressing/sink area and he'd seen one he liked at RH a few months ago, but with RH's complete redesign of the store in the mall, we thought we might have better luck finding them at the outlet.  All the things that made their store remarkable seem to have vanished.

As luck would have it, we found a pair of the brass framed mirrors - (yes, brass is back with a bang) and added them to our growing pile of purchases for the remodel.  I wasn't at all disappointed we paid a fraction of the retail price.

It started me thinking about mirrors and I jumped on the computer to check out something I'd seen recently about the 70's mirrored tiles making a comeback. The antique glass ones are very reminiscent of the 70's era.

Seems all things fashion and decor come back to haunt us in the end - including the mirror tiles.  However, and most thankfully, not in exactly the same way.

The Antique version kind of looks amazing in the bathroom...

(Not all mirrored tile works in the bathroom - make sure its safe for wet areas!)

Using it in the kitchen is a new concept -

But it completely makes sense as a backsplash.

I love the texture this 1x1-inch mosaic tile

But there is nothing like a wall of mirrors to make a beautiful statement...

If you have lived through the 70's, you may cringe at the idea of glass tiles, but I think you would have to agree, sometimes what's old is new again - and these 'new' uses of mirrored tile - are definitely something to think about!

Today's mirrored tiles add the advantages of a mirror a new way.  Check them out - it might be something you would like to add to your home.
