CHRISTMAS DECOR: Red and White Cottage Charm

LYNETTE'S HOUSE
Lynette's house is pure cottage charm

At first I thought that her palette of lavender and sage
would be difficult to decorate for Christmas

Not so.
It just so happens that red, white and silver
look amazing in her home.

At Lynette's house, the cottage charm starts at the front porch
where we placed silver and red lanterns, pots of white flowers and Christmas pillows on shabby chic patio furniture.
I created a swag for her porch light
and attached it with wired red ribbon

and made a wreath for her front door from glittering white hydrangeas, pinecones, berry picks and snowflake ribbon.
In the center I hung a pair of decorative ice skates
 for a frosty finish

The entry was the perfect place to showcase her Mercury Glass collection, along with boughs of greenery and snowflakes

the little owl, found at Pier 1, was the perfect accent

as was the glittering bird from Willow Manor.

One of the things I love most
about decorating Lynette's home for the holidays
Is creating little vignettes
a nativity in a cozy corner of the living room
poinsettia pillows with jingle bell centers

ornaments in unexpected places

candles and crystals
In the dining room the buffet showcases
a more subdued arrangement
a vignette of botanicals, glittered nativity and mercury glass

The silver sconces in the dining room
receive a circlet of green, a little ivy
and sparkly branches
for the staircase garland I added bright red berries
and echoed this same treatment on the chandelier
and the wreath on the mirror
cute red pillows brighten the dining room bench
for the table centerpiece I collected a lantern (HomeGoods), candlesticks and
red berry candlewreaths for a garden fresh look
we sprinkled snow, silver bells and stars in the bottom of the lantern and added red ball candles to the candlesticks

a rug on the coffee table and pillows from Crate and Barrel
become the focal point of the living room
along with this garden tray we found at HomeGoods a while go, and Lynette filled with moss, and garden ornaments
I added a few shiny Christmas ornaments for a festive touch

in the hall, I created a vignette of glittered houses and pine boughs sprinkled with snowflakes

nestled just beneath her gallery wall

the sconces at the top of the staircase flanking the mirror
receive circlets of green
and candy cane colored cones
filled with red berries

In the family room, carolers gather on the mirror shelf

but the mantle is the crowning glory there
white pottery, silver mercury glass and white flowers;
red velvet stockings with fur cuffs in a row
and pinecone and berry garland we found at TPT Home

I made the wreath from a plain snow tipped green wreath
picks of pine and berries
and a glittered 'believe' sign from TaiPan Trading

I made all the stockings using a Martha Stewart pattern from her website in a deep red velvet fabric and fleece fur from Joann's

 Drake, the family dog's stocking,
was embossed with an iron and a rubber stamp

Finally, basket of greens, pinecones and berries
was created for the kitchen

and Lynette lined up a collection of Christmas trees
along her long kitchen counter

we added a vignette of candy canes and candles in glass

near the kitchen sink
sprinkled with snowflakes

(note the little wooden shoes -
a tradition from her husband's heritage)

I hope you enjoyed Lynette's charming home!
We'd love to hear from you
